Meeting our coaches: Evie Mclachlan

Updated: Feb 3

I coach the Rookies.

Mom, wife, entrepreneur and most enthusiastic cyclist. Four years ago I felt like I had been handed a death sentence when I was told my running days were over as I had severe osteoarthritis. While I was having my own pity party, a good friend suggested that I join the Trail Angels and take up mountain biking. Initially I thought this was madness that this Princess would ever be on a mountain bike!

After many false starts, panic calls to Nikki with excuses as to why I couldn’t start that day, I plucked up the courage and arrived for my first Trail Angel ride. Heart pumping sweaty hands and we were off to lower Tokai forest. Let’s just say that balance was not my strong point.

Under the guidance of Lisa and with the support of the amazing trail angels my riding started to improve as did the balance and fitness.

I was hooked. Once a week became three times a week and then weekends became all about riding. Fast forward four years later ... cycling has become my passion, my escape and most importantly my sanity.

The friendships formed by cycling with a bunch of like-minded women are friendships formed for life. My husband is also an avid mountain biker and nothing beats a weekend away with our bikes and lycra. I have completed two Wines2Whales, one Sani2C, Dr Evil, Zuurberg Trek and many more social stage rides.
