About the Founder

Nikki Haywood has been riding her bike since she was a student at Stellenbosch University. She started cycling as a means of transport and then in 2006 she decided to enter her first Absa Cape Epic as a rookie rider and from there her passion for mountain biking began.

She has gone on to complete 4 Cape Epics, 3 W2W, 3 Sani2C the Imana Wild Ride and has also cycled 2000km across South Africa with a friend for 3 weeks through the bush unsupported.

In 2012 she started the Trail Angels Ladies Mountain Biking Group. Her patience, passion and encouragement has been life changing for many of the members and she continues to inspire women to ride their bikes.

Her main aim is to get women fit, get them skilled and have loads of fun doing it. She offers a non-competitive environment where everyone feels confident to ride at their own pace without feeling any peer pressure.

Nikki is a Specialized brand ambassador. She rides the Epic Evo Expert and a specialised Levo. She is very excited about being associated with this world class brand. Specialized are driven to help support women’s cycling and therefore the working relationship between Specialized and the Trail Angels can only be a winning formula.
