Who We Are

Our Inspiration

Nikki Haywood has been riding her bike since she was a student at Stellenbosch University. She started cycling as a means of transport and then in 2006 she decided to enter her first Absa Cape Epic as a rookie rider and from there her passion for mountain biking began.

She has gone on to complete 4 Cape Epics, 3 W2W, 3 Sani2C the Imana Wild Ride and has also cycled 2000km across South Africa with a friend for 3 weeks through the bush unsupported.

In 2012 she started the Trail Angels Ladies Mountain Biking Group. Her patience, passion and encouragement has been life changing for many of the members and she continues to inspire women to ride their bikes.

Her main aim is to get women fit, get them skilled and have loads of fun doing it. She offers a non-competitive environment where everyone feels confident to ride at their own pace without feeling any peer pressure.

Nikki is the Liv brand ambassador. She rides a Liv Pique 1 and she has loved it since her very first ride. It is a pleasure to ride and handles the trails like a dream!

Off The Saddle (OTS)

What is OTS?

OTS is a personalised assessment based program that addresses specific strength and alignment issues you as a cyclist may or may not be aware of.

FTLS (Functional Training Lifestyle Solution) trainers will assess you both ON the saddle and OFF the saddle and customise a training program based on the results of your assessment. The second assessment will reveal the improvements and a further program is devised to build on your new found strengths.

OTS is not only about fitness and strength but also about stimulating relevant muscles, muscle groups and nerves to correct existing issues and to activate dormant muscles and fibers.

Why OTS works

  • Quite simply it is the customisation based on the individual that makes the program so successful.
  • Addresses more than just cardiovascular training or gym work outs.
  • Uses the most natural  form of weight training known to us, our own body weight.
  • Focuses on the root cause not just a symptom.
  • Looks at personal fitness and injury history so not to repeat patterns of misuse.

Skills Clinics

We offer skills clinics for all riders. These are tailor made sessions depending on what the riders needs are. Most of the sessions will be run locally at the Constantia Uitsig Bike Park or in the Tokai forest area.

These sessions will be an extra charge as often we will be using the expertise of pro riders. The groups will be small and conducive to learning a great deal and you will definitely come off the session with a huge amount of knowledge that you can put into practice while riding with the Trail Angels.

So how will I get to know when the next skills clinic is? Please check the Termly Calendar for upcoming skills clinics.

Biking Getaways

Spain Tour 2015

In September 2015, 12 Trail Angels set out on an adventure……… 10 days of Mountain Biking in Spain.

This was a trip planned a year in advance and with much excitement, anxiety and anticipation we left Cape Town on 9th September 2015.

We spent a week in a tiny village just north of Alicante in the South-East of Spain. Castell de Castells is an ancient village in the mountains steeped in history. Predominantly an agricultural area, Castells provided amazing trails traversing through the Olive and Almond groves. The riding was rocky and thorny and the views were spectacular. Our pension provided great accommodation and the home cooked meals were a gastronomic delight.

We also took a couple of trips down to the coast for a beach and cocktail day……. Wonderful swimming in the Mediterranean.

All in all a very successful International trip with lots of laughter and awesome mountain biking trails. It was amazing experiencing traditional Spanish culture and being exposed to the local delicacies and the very friendly local folk.

Knysna Tour 2015

We are so privileged to have the beauty of the Knysna region right on our doorstep. Last February we took a four day trip into the Rheenendal area just outside Knysna.

Our first ride was an urban ride to the Knysna Heads ending with a fish and chips dinner , then off to our accommodation in the Rheenendal area. We tackled the Homtini circular route the following day, had lunch at the famous Totties restaurant and had a chilled relaxing afternoon.

After a morning of riding at the Garden Route Bike Park we went on an amazing hike to the rock pools at Drupkelders. That evening we experienced some fine dining at The Veg Table….. all home grown ingredients made with lots of passion.

Sunday started with a yummy breakfast and a chilled ride at the Bike Park after which we set off on our journey back to Cape Town.

A great weekend of riding, eating and socializing with new friends
